According to the archives, Bollywood super star and the very famous daughter-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan, wife to Abhishek Bachchan, and Will Smith, the A-lister of Hollywood, always wanted to work and that too, together. This endeavor was unsuccessful somehow.
Hindustan Times has stated that Will Smith had offered Aishwarya Rai Bachchan films like ‘Seven Pounds’, ‘Hitch’ and even ‘Tonight He Comes’, but Aishwarya could not manage the time factor for even one of them due to multiple different reasons.
In an interview of 2008 with IANS, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan revealed the real reason of refusing ‘Seven Pounds’. At that time, there were rumors that she had chosen to attend the festivities of Karwa Chauth at home in India. This is not the truth and this is confirmed by Aishwarya.
She stated that back then they had written in the US press that she preferred to return to Bombay to ‘starve’ for some religious occasion rather than meet Smith for the movie. According to her, the ‘Seven Pounds’ script reading was immediately after Diwali and that was the time Teji Bachchan (Dadima) health had deteriorated.
That is the reason she could not make the trip to Los Angeles for the required reading session with Will Smith. According to her this was not wrong as she would always put her family before her career.
The next film of Will Smith that was rejected by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was ‘Tonight He Comes’. This was to shoot for Jodhaa- Akbar of Ashutosh Gowariker.
She said in 2006 that she had to refuse the film and that she feels bad for the same but at the same time she has her priorities set right. She said that she was really interested in doing a film with Will Smith as they got along very well when they met. It was unfortunate that Will wanted to make the film when she was caught-up with ‘Jodhaa-Akbar’ of Ashutosh Gowariker.
Will had offered Aishwarya the film back in 2005 on his visit to India. He admitted that he really wanted to work with her as she had this powerful energy where she does not need to do anything or say anything and just stand there.
