IPL2021 on 14th April 2021
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with 149 for 8 managed to beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who made 143 for 9.
The last over of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was a six run win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Harshal Patel bowled a full toss over the waist. This was the 2nd time he did so in the match. David Warner got animated and was seen gesturing as to the reason why Harshal was not taken out as this was his 2nd offence. Trevor Bayliss, the coach, said that the SRH team had accepted that the umpires made the ‘right’ call.
Ahmed managed to turn the game which the SRH team had in their grasp. This was due to his left-arm darts. He managed an over with triple wicket in the 17th and the RCB team surged back. When Ahmed came to bowl his second over, the SRH teams were 115 for 2. They needed 35 off 24 balls. Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow, both were at the crease. Ahmed managed to get both of them in this over and also added the wicket of Abdul Samaad, who is considered as a ‘big’ hitter.
Ahmed had a fantastic day as he was number 3 in the batting order and also managed to contribute 14 runs off 10 balls. Though he did not bowl more than 2 overs, he had managed figures of 3 for 7. He worked out to be a positive for the RCB team along with Glenn Maxwell, who managed to make a good half century in the early stages. The RCB team, with this victory, moved to the top of the table of the IPL2021.
Warner Takes Off
David Warner was at his real best after the failure at the opening game. Though he did not get much of a strike, he managed to keep up his rhythm. He managed to keep the boundaries flowing. Warner faced two balls from Washington Sundar who was brought in only in the fifth over of the powerplay.
Manish Pandey was seen struggling to pierce the different gaps during the 2nd wicket stand of 83. It was at this time that the SRH team was only cruising due to the hitting by Warner at the other end.
Ahmed turns it around
After Warner was dismissed, the SRH team needed 54 runs off 40 balls with 8 wickets in hand. This was definitely a straightforward task in most of the chases of T20. RCB team bowled tight over in quick succession, and this managed to inch the required run rate forward. This was till Ahmed was brought in by Kohli in the 17th over. Bairstow and Pandey thought that they could target this over for easing the chase, but with variations in his bowling and also the awkward height, both these batsmen could not quite get a hold. Both of them ended up hitting the ball for easy catches.
This was the over that could turn the things around and the middle order of the SRH team cracked under pressure.
