Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

In the IPL2021 match played in Ahmadabad on 30th April, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) won by 34 runs and beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team.

In a mere seven deliveries, Harpreet Brar managed to dismiss Kohli, Maxwell, and also de Villiers without giving a single run. This match has made Brar a hero.

In the matches Brar played before, he was unable to take any wicket with his spin of the left-arm. All this was forgotten after these seven deliveries.

This dismissals by Brar of Kohli, Maxwell and de Villiers could ensure that the closing over’s of the PBKS team were a mere formality. The RCB team managed only 145 runs for 8 wickets and was defeated by 34 runs. This was their 2nd defeat in 3 matches. PBKS team managed to draw level with MI team who are the defending champions.

Besides the huge contribution, Brar also managed to take a catch in the deep. A malfunction of the middle-order again threatened to derail the PBKS teams hopes of a good total, but Brar was firm with 25 runs off 17 balls in a stand of 61 runs for the 6th wicket. Rahul trotted to 91 and was not out. This was from 57 balls.

Gayle reminds of past glories

Gayle came in at number 3 but faced only 2 balls by the start of the 6th and final over of the power play. By this time, the PBKS team had made 29 for 1. His response was emphatic and typical. He hit 5 fours in 6 balls. The next delivery Gayle faced from Yuzvendra Chahal went for a 6 and this was repeated in the same over with the last ball. This brought him to 36 runs from 13 balls.

Pace in the Power Play

The PBKS team threw everything at the opening gambit. Mohammed Shami and Riley Meridith launched the assault with 5 over’s of quality pace bowling. The off stump of Devidutt Padikkul was sent cart-wheeling by Merideth, and Shami had a compelling duel with Kohli.

Chris Jordan managed to get the memo with an excellent 1st over that went for a 4. This is the time the asking rate of the RCB team rushed towards 2 a ball. The spinners had seized the stage with a tossing license and inviting big swipes.

Harpreet harpoon the Big Fish

Brar’s 1st delivery of the match was connected by Kohli into the sight screen. In his 3rd over, Brar managed a double-wicket maiden. This over was the 11th over of the inning. Kohli went first, with frustration pouring out of his ears. Maxwell had the off stump clipped one ball later. This moment is definitely amazing. The 3rd umpired was compelled to find out what happened exactly.

De Villiers managed to survive the ball of the ‘hat-trick’.

The game turned around due to Brar. He got all the important wickets one after another and managed a ‘win’ which they needed.
