Most of the matches played in IPL2020 till now found that batting second was advantageous, but now it is the opposite. Teams find it tough to go for the chase. RR (Rajasthan Royals) succumbed to a loss with 57 runs to go against MI (Mumbai Indians). RR was given a target of 194, but the innings were folded for only 136 runs.
RR had all the opportunity to restrict MI for a total that was less than 170. They had quick wickets of Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize on the given opportunity.
Suryakumar made a brilliant 79 from 47 balls and Hardik Pandya managed 30 runs of 19 balls. This maturity from both the players could take the team close to 200.
RR is known for being a strong bowling unit, but Ankit Rajpoot, who is their third pacer, seems to be under the weather at this moment. Instead of Jaydev Unadkat, they took Kartik Tyagi and he managed to do quite well. In the first match he took 1 wicket and gave 36 runs.
Bumrah looked a bit rusty in the first few matches but seems to be gaining his form slowly but surely. He is second in the wicket-taker’s list this year. Against RR, he bagged 4/20. The famous Yorkers of this player were on full display in the match. This can be considered as one of the biggest positives. The batsmen in the opposite team found it tough to beat him for runs.
Sanju Samson seemed to be brilliant in the first two matches played for RR. Since that time he has turned out to be quiet. RR has lost three matches when Samson has not delivered. He does not seem to have adjusted to the slow wickets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Why did Jasprit Bumrah open the Bowling for MI?
MI knew that the game could be killed with early wickets and career numbers of Bumrah are good against Buttler and Smith. He had managed to dismiss Buttler 3 times in only 23 balls in T20’s and gave only 27 runs.
Bumrah shared the new ball with Trent Boult and made the much needed impact. His 1st over went for 2 runs by Smith. The probability of a win for RR dipped to 10% according to the forecaster of ESPNcricinfo.
Smith is another player who has not been up to the mark. In this match, he lined up a swipe with no movement of the foot against Bumrah. This gave Quinton de Knock a simple catch behind the stumps.
The top order of the MI had all the freedom to attack tonight. Rohit Sharma was in total form in the match played. On the other hand, Suryakumar at No.3 combined a high level of control with a strike rate of 168.08.
Rajasthan Royals had dropped Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag, who are two top middle-order batsmen and included Tom Curran at No.6.
