Maqbool Khan, who is the director of the movie ‘Khali Peeli’ that stars Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey, has clarified about a song in Khali Peeli. The lyricist of this song is Kumaar.
He stated that he wished to apologist to anyone who is offended with the lyrics of this song. This apology was without any hesitation. He said that he and the lyricist who wrote the song never intended to write the lyrics with racism in mind. The term ‘goriya’ has been used multiple times and traditionally in Indian songs when you want to address a girl. That is the reason it did not occur to anyone to interpret this literally.
This song, which is shot on Ananya Pandey and Ishaan Khatter, was heavily trolled when it was released on Monday. This was due to the word ‘goriya’ that was used in the lyrics.
This word refers to a fair woman and a pop star in America. Beyonce is dark-skinned and is of the African-American origin. All through Monday, Beyonce’s name trended on Twitter as her Indian fans claimed that the specific line in that song is a definite racist dig at the singer.
Maqbool reacted to the criticism and added that the comparison made to Beyonce was meant to be a guy who is street-smart, flattering a girl who is trying to impress with her performance and dancing is worth comparison to Beyonce. This is seen as the final word, the epitome of beauty, talent, attitude, style, and performance. He added that all of them were huge fans and there was no question of any disrespect.
This song is composed by Vishal and Shekar and is sung by Nakash Aziz and Neeti Mohan.
Kumaar, who is the lyricist of this song, also gave his statement. He said that this word, ‘goriya’ has been used many times in Hindi songs, and the idea to include this word was to use a synonym to a girl and not hurt anyone. There was no intention of any derogation. He added that they respect the beauty of Beyonce, who is a global celebrity.
Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey’s movie, ‘Khali Peeli’ has been the talk of the town from the time the trailer was released. The audience seems to have gone gaga over the performance of the young actors; it was this song that created a different type of controversy.
At present, the makers of this film have decided on rejig the song but at the same time, there was a clarification issued by the director, Maqbool Khan.
He feels as the lyrical arrangement has created problems with some people it was better to change the song a little but keep the essence the same. He added that there was no way he intended to offend anyone. The film was made with the sole purpose of entertaining.
The new song, ‘Duniya Sharma Jayegi’ has been uploaded with the musical arrangement and the principal beat being the same.
