One of the most watched and waited for cricket tournament started on 19th September 2020 in UAE. This match was played between defending champions, MI (Mumbai Indians) against CCSK (Chennai Super Kings). These two teams are considered to be the most successful teams in the history of the IPL (Indian Premiere League). Both these teams have a huge fan following.
This match was played in empty stadium due to the ongoing pandemic. Here is a brief summary of the IPL 2020 played between the Chennai Super Kings led by M.S. Dhoni and Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma.
Chennai Super kings won the toss and elected fielding first. Rohit Sharma, captain of MI, agreed that if he had won the toss he would have aso elected to field first due to the conditions.
The MI (Mumbai Indians) has players like Rohit Sharma who is the captain, along with Quinton de Kock (w), Saurabh Tiwary, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Rahul Chahar, James Pattinson, Trent Boult and Jasprit bumrah.
CSK (Chennai Super Kings) had players like M.S. Dhoni as the captain, Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, Kedar Jadhav, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Lungi Ngidi and Piyush Chawla.
Quinton and Rohit opened for the MI and Deepak Chahar took over the new ball. The very first ball was hit for a boundary by Rohit Sharma, with Quinton following for a boundary in the fourth delivery.
There was one specific over which was hit for almost eight runs as Deepak Chahar was quite inconsistent with his deliveries. After Lungi Ngidi took over the bowling, Quinton hammered him for almost 18 runs in that one over.
It was only after Piyus Chawla bowled, that the CSK could manage to take a wicket. Once Hardik Pandya had the bat in his hand, there was no stopping him.
Though Mumbai Indians were off on a good start, they managed to end the first innings with 162 runs. It was the final six over that made a difference to the whole game.
CSK did not start off well with the first two wickets taken very easily and very fast. Du Plessis and Ruyadu managed to stabilize the difficult chase and this partnership played a great role even in the absence of Suresh Raina.
Ambati Ruyadu managed to score 50 and had a 100 run partnership with Du Plessis. Sam Curran came after Ruyadu got out and du Plessis stuck steadily.
The final overs were full of tension for both the teams as there was a time when CSK needed 5 runs of only 6 balls.
CSK could beat the MI after 5 consecutive defeats. CSK beat them with 5 wickets. This sends a clear message to all the other teams. This team could thrive after initial setbacks because of the partnership of 100 runs between Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudi.
The outcome of the match was unexpected and thus, worked out to be exciting and fun.
