Chennai Super Kings strangle Sunrisers Hyderabad

Chennai Super Kings

SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) v/s CSK (Chennai Super Kings)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) adapted a new approach and managed to strangle Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Sam Curran set a tone with 31 off 21 balls and this was the highlight of the new approach of the CSK. This team made 167 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

The slow bowlers of the Super Kings smothered the SRH team. Rashid Khan managed to scare the Super Kings by making 14 off 8 balls and Williamson made half a century in 36 balls with sheer manipulation.
MS Dhoni turned to Karn Sharma, the leg spinner, when SRH required 46 runs off 18 balls. Shahbaz Nadeem  hit three boundaries in only 4 balls in an over.

The heroes for CSK included Ambati Rayadu and Shane Watson. Previously, they had struck centuries against the SRH and had also countered Nadeem and Khan as both these spinners went without any wickets and conceded 59 runs between both of them.

MS Dhoni unleashed a six off T Natarajan, and Jadeja cracked unbeaten 25 off 10 balls. In the tenth over, SRH were 59 for 3 wickets when Bairstow got out. This left Williamson along with the middle order struggling against the CSK team.

CSK shake things up:

CSK batted first for the first time in this season of the IPL2020. Watson was pushed down to number 3 so that Curran could be accommodated at the top. Curran tonked Khaleel Ahmed, the left arm-spinner, for two sixes and two fours in the 4th over. In six overs, CSK was 44 for 2.

Bairstow dropped Rayadu on 9 and Watson was dropped on 20 by Khan. The left arm angle and hard lengths by Nadeem troubled Watson.Rayadu was quite comfortable and managed to hoist him for a six over his head.

Both these batsmen fell in successive overs in a similar fashion, holing out off the full tosses. Dhoni and Jadeja provided the finishing kick, and helped the CSK take 48 off the last four overs.

Chepauk in Dubai:

Dhoni used all the four overs of Chahar upfront. He was wicketless but he managed to find accuracy and the swing. Curran dismissed Watson for the 1st time this season in the power play.

When Jadeja bowled Bairstow, the SRH were 60 for 3 wickets and needed 108 off 10 overs. Karn teased Priyam Garg as he found a sharp turn. This was before he made the incision.

On Tuesday, Piyush Chawla, who had started this season as the frontline spinner for CSK was not needed at all.

Williamson managed to manoeuvre the ball in a calm manner into the gaps and took the chase deeper. He was on 21 runs off 19 balls at one time, but raised the tempo, and finished with 57 off 39 balls. Khan batted at number 7 in the absence of Abhishek Sharma. He was left out for Nadeem. Bravo and Thakur managed to save the day for CSK.

CSK kept hopes alive with the 20-run win against SRH.
