At the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 Part 2, its virtual event, Samsung launched the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 2. This is the Korean smartphone maker’s third foldable phone and the second-generation version of the Galaxy Fold design.
This newly launched phone comes packed with various upgrades as compared to the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold. Though the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is similar in design to the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has claimed that the new model has a sturdier hinge.Dr. TM Roh, Samsung Mobile Chief, also mentioned that they have made sure to consider user feedback to make hardware changes that are meaningful and innovations that enhance user experience.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a 7.6-inch. Full-H. D (1,768×2,208 pixels) screen which is foldable. The display is Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O with an aspect ratio of 22.5:18 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also has a 6.2-inch. The screen on the outside, which has a Super AMOLED Infinity Flex Display, 816×2,216 pixels resolution, and an aspect ratio of 25:9. The hinge has also been re-engineered with a dedicated “sweeper” that helps to clean dust and debris with elastic fibers. The screen features UTG protection. The phone comes with CAM mechanism, allowing it to be opened at multiple angles.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 uses Android 10 and One UI 2.5. The phone has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC. This comes with 12GB RAM. Moreover, this comes equipped with 256GB inbuilt storage that is not expandable.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a total of five cameras. The rear has three camera sensors of 12-megapixels with an ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto lens. The setup of the rear cameras also has auto-focus. The front of the phone has a 10-megapixel primary camera. The camera comes with various modes such as Pro Video mode, Single Take, Bright Night, Night Mode, etc. Other features that are preloaded are Panorama, Live Focus, Group Selfie, Bixby Vision, and Auto Scene Optimisation. The phone supports slow-motion and 4K videos.
The smartphone comes equipped with a 4,500mAh battery. It supports fast charging, Wireless PowerShare, and wireless charging.
This comes with various sensors like ambient light sensor, barometer, Proximity sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer. It comes with a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 also supports facial unlocking. It also comes with stereo speakers by AKG and Dolby Atmos.
The phone weighs 279 grams and measures 159.2×128.2×6.9mm. It supports 5G, 4G, LTE, Wi-Fi 6, USB Type-C, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, and UWB.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a special Thom Browne Edition. This design has a mix of the Thom Browne signature colors and a gray background, developed in collaboration with the New York-based designer. This edition will include the phone, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, and other customized accessories.
The smartphone was launched in two colors: Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. The phone is available for pre-order in select markets. Its price and sale details in India are to be announced, however, the price will be roughly Rs. 1.46 lakh.
